Surely not...

The Media Guardian has an interesting article entitled: "Now BBC gives pets their own station..."

This must be a spoof, surely...

(It's not a spoof, and don't call me Shirley - Ed)

Flowery Photos

Took some nice photos over the weekend of the inside of some tulips (green-fingered friends can you advise me on the correct term,) with a view to attempting to be vaguely arty....

There's two lots - some weird semi-psychedelic ones and also some more obvious ones like the one below. I'm actually quite chuffed with them. Prints available for a modest fee!

If I ate less pies, didn't have cyclicists legs and spent more time on the sunbed - apparantly I would look like this....

New look BBC Radio Player

I now do almost all of my radio listening on demand, listening to very little programming live Today and Today in Parliament being notable exceptions.

One of the meain reasons for this is the excellent audio on demand service from BBCi which offers most programmes for up to 7 days after their original transmission.

My listening typically makes the most of this, as my favourite radio shows are ones that I'm never in for, or which I would otherwsie sleep through - Bob Harris, The Blue Room and Stuart Maconie's Sunday Breakfast Show being just three examples...

Anyway - the Radio Player has now relaunched and is better than before - not only can you skip through programmes more easily, but they've also expanded the range of content on offer. I'm listening to a programme on Northern Soul from Radio Stoke, which obviously in normal circumstances I would never get to hear.

It's great - I like Northern Soul, and now I don't even have to move to Stoke to hear it. Phew!

Is it me - or is Toxic by far the best pop record of the year so far?

The video has got lots of attention, but the tune - with its Bondesque undertones is just fantastic. I seem to hear it everytime I turn on the radio (Radio 4 aside,) and everytime I wander into a shop, and I'm still to tire of it, in fact I like it more and more.

A welcome return to form for everybody's favourite virgin (sic)...

I'm not having a great day today - IT problems being the main source of angst - but it's worth remembering that however bad things are, someone else always has it worse...

Mike's Stag Party

A few weeks late - but up here now nonetheless - photos from the excellent Paintablling and Dog Racing night which made up Mike's recent stag do.

On account of being very old I retired to bed a little earlier than most - Troll's entertaining pictures from the rest of the evening are up here.

Cornwall Pics

A quick 24 hour jaunt down to our offices in the Redruth, Cornwall, and a chance to take some nice new pics with my new camera.

Most of them were taken looking through the window of the train yet surprisingly came out quite well.... (even if I do say so myself)... some of the later ones are particularly arty!

Another week, another gig.

Last night Sean and I went to see Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.

Our view of the stage - no zoom required!

After a subdued start the house was soon having a ‘boogie’ to use Jools’ term as a constant procession of first-rate singers and musicians stepped forth to perform. Tom Jones, Jay Kay, Mica Paris, Dave Gilmour, Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck, Mica Paris, Beverly Knight, Ruby Turner, Mark Almond, Sam Brown and Suggs – being just some of the people to grace the stage, with just a very drunk Shane McGowan disgracing it.

Most of the songs were ones that Jools had written himself – and he would insist on singing them - which seemed a shame when you’ve a roster of singers like those outlined above. Whilst I would have preferred to have heard more standards and more of the vocal talents of some of the guests stars, it remained a good evening.

Special mention must go to Solomon Burke who seated in a great throne showed everyone how it should be done. His voice remains amazing and his ability to work a crowd undiminished. Closely behind this was the highlight of Mr Jones’ unexpected turn – and I thought I’d have to all the way to Vegas to see the man with the big voice from the valley’s sing…

If you’ve bought any of the recent albums which this band brings out in time for the Christmas market then you’ll know most of the songs and artists which were on display – but unlike the records which I find hard to listen to after about 20 mins or so, on stage with these musicians the music comes alive – let’s boogie!

Pull-o-meter

This is rather fun - and quite bizarre for thus of us who've never ever done half the stuff shown!

Not surprising therefore that at the end I was given the advice that "No one gets very far without sticking their neck out a bit." Not much use now - where were you with those pearls of wisdom when I was 18....
