Went to the Bloomsbury Theatre last night to see Ricky Gervais' new stand up show - 'Politics'. The title is a bit of a misnomer really in that the show is really an opportunity for Ricky to riff on a number of different topics includign philosophy, school and the holocaust.

As you'd expect from the current King of Comedy this was a funny show with some good gags and Gervais comes across as warm, funny and genuine (if you've heard his Xfm show or seen him interviewed you'll get a gist of his style).

My only criticism would be that at £30 for an hour (plus 30 mins support) it's pretty expensive. Moreover, he's not a natural stand-up in that the show was carefully scripted (with large prompt notes on the on-stage lectern,) so the show doesn't flow or have the free-flowing improvisation you would get from more seasoned stand-ups.

Mind you, that said, it was far from bad and with this show - just like his 'Animals' tour last year, Gervias has shown he's more than a one trick pony.
